NORM-JECT® or Air-Tite Syringes?

NORM-JECT® or Air-Tite Syringes?

NORM-JECT or Air-Tite Syringes

We often receive questions about when one brand of a product can be used instead of the other when a customer compares prices and features between options, or if a product they are looking for is out of stock. One of the more common instances of this is when customers ask if Air-Tite brand syringes and NORM-JECT® syringes can be used interchangeably.

NORM-JECT® and Air-Tite brand syringes are two high-quality syringes manufactured to the same exacting ISO standards. Both are available in sterile and non-sterile options and have similar sizes in both luer lock and luer slip options, including:

  • 1mL*
  • 3mL
  • 5mL
  • 10mL
  • 20mL
  • 30mL
  • 60mL

*Norm-Ject® does not currently have a 1mL luer lock, but they otherwise match.

However, that’s about where the similarities come to an end. Each brand is ideal for specific applications and use cases. Read on to learn more about NORM-JECT® and Air-Tite Syringes and how the choice between the two (and the other syringe options we carry) will help you beat ongoing supply chain issues.

Air-Tite Brand 3-Part Syringes

Air-Tite brand syringes are one of our product lines of 3-part syringes. They consist of these different parts:

  • Barrel
  • Plunger
  • Rubber gasket

3-part syringes use a lubricant, such as silicone oil to prevent the rubber gasket from sticking to the inside of the barrel. 3-part syringes are ideal for countless applications. But the lubricant in them can sometimes act as a contaminant for high-precision applications such as chromatography. This is why it’s essential to consider your applications before you opt for a 3-part syringe.

Air-Tite brand syringes are not registered as medical devices for human use with the FDA, meaning you can only use Air-Tite syringes for laboratory and animal health purposes. This is an advantage for users in these fields, as it allows for a much lower production cost—ultimately leading to a lower price for our customers.

In addition to the standalone syringes, the Air-Tite brand also offers a wide range of syringes with needles in various sizes and configurations. NORM-JECT® and HENKE-JECT® do not have any options with attached needles.

Air-Tite brand syringes are standardized to contain ten boxes per case for every option, whereas cases of NORM-JECT® syringes vary greatly depending on syringe size (with as many as 25 boxes per case).

NORM-JECT®  2-Part Syringes

NORM-JECT® syringes consist of 2 parts—a polypropylene barrel and a precisely engineered, slightly oversized polyethylene plunger that expands the barrel to create the vacuum. This design allows for a smooth gliding plunger that maintains vacuum pressure without using a rubber gasket and potential lubricant contamination.

NORM-JECT® syringes are ideal for sensitive applications such as:

  • Chromatography
  • Working with glues
  • Working with paints
  • Working with industrial solvents
  • And many other application that could be affected by the presence of silicone oil or rubber

Air-Tite vs. NORM-JECT® Ideal Applications

There are several applications where you would opt for an Air-Tite 3-part syringe over a NORM-JECT® and vice versa:

Healthcare or Aesthetics - You can only use NORM-JECT® or another human use line for these applications. Air-Tite carries several brands of 3-part syringes which may be used for healthcare or aesthetics including HENKE-JECT®, Omnifix, EXEL, and BD.

Laboratory/Industrial/Animal Health - Air-Tite and NORM-JECT® syringes are both commonly used in many laboratory, industrial, and animal health applications. This versatility presents an opportunity for you to use the Air-Tite brand to save on cost. However, some applications are more sensitive to the rubber and silicone oil found in common syringes, and the NORM-JECT line is more appropriate for these situations.

Other Applications - Anything requiring FDA approval needs to be NORM-JECT® or HENKE-JECT® or another one of our several human-use syringes lines.

Why Choose Air-Tite over NORM-JECT® ?

In addition to the significant cost savings, there are many other reasons to opt for an Air-Tite brand syringe rather than a NORM-JECT® syringe. For starters, Air-Tite has complete and total control over the Air-Tite brand. We select the factories, check the standards, oversee the packaging, and more.

If we anticipate supply chain issues or expect costs to rise in a single manufacturing facility, we can quickly change manufacturing plants to keep Air-Tite available as a solid economy brand. This means you’ll always get good quality at economically-friendly prices.

Air-Tite has been working with NORM-JECT® manufacturers for more than 30 years. This collaboration has provided us with a great relationship and constant, ongoing communication. We plan up to a year ahead to ensure we have ample product supply when our customers need syringes. However, there are times when even the best planning can be thwarted by unforeseen manufacturing, shipping, or delivery circumstances.  We expect our Air-Tite brand to be in-stock greater than 96% of the time.
